Our EV charging cables come in different shapes, colors, and lengths and they all have a protective lid to ensure the cable is protected from dust and debris. The cables are made up of thermoplastic materials and are heat-resistant. This minimizes breakdown during overheating and prolonged use.

Types of cables

There are two types of cables for AC (Alternating Current) charging. The first one, and most common in Europe, is the Type 2 IEC 62196 standard. The second one is the Type 1 SAE J1772 standard and its use is more frequent in the USA and Asia.

The Type 2 plug connector is used to charge from a Type 2 charging station when you have an electric vehicle that also has a Type 2 charging socket. These types of cables are capable to charge your EV with up to 22kW of power. This is true considering that your electric car can accept such power and the charging station can provide it.

The Type 1 plug connector is used to charge from a Type 2 charging station when you have an electric vehicle that has a Type 1 charging socket. In America, this type of cable is almost always integrated into the station. J1772 cables can charge up to 7.2kW and the reason for charging with less power is that Type 1 EVs cannot accept more power.

Both of these cables are used for the, usually called, Mode 3 charging. A charging method that uses the cable connector to charge your EV from a private or public charging station. SAE J1772 and IEC 62196 charging cables are also referred to as Mode 3 charging cables. Mode 2 charging is available using a portable charging cable to charge your EV through a domestic socket.

How to protect your product

The charging connector is one of the most important pieces of equipment when it comes to electric vehicles. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to go far. Therefore, you need to keep it well stored and protected when not in use. In order to increase the lifespan and durability of your cable is very important to take good care of it.

Firstly, we would recommend storing the cable in a carrying bag when not in use. Alternatively, at our e-shop, you can find hanging hooks and dummy sockets so you can safely store your cable next to your charging station if you own one. The perfect location for your charging accessory is a dry place, where the direct sunlight cannot reach for an extended period of time.
